MANZINI - A stalwart and giant has fallen and in his last days, he spoke about forgiveness, unity among the family and respect for the family hierarchy.

This is how the family of the late lawyer, Themba Mike Ndlovu, who was widely known as Macilongo, described him during his memorial service at Sharpe Memorial Church of the Nazarene yesterday. Sikhumbuzo, who was a father figure to the deceased, said some people run to others to hide, but highlighted that the best person to go to was the Lord. He then thanked the Church of the Nazarene for availing the special worship place for the memorial service of their loved one and for playing a part in raising him.

After that, he said Macilongo’s death was not a loss to the Ndlovu family alone, but to the country. He said this was because, in their family and country, he was a special son, an advisor, someone who made his presence felt, a guide and groomer. He said as a family, they are comforted, as they trust that their Lord is faithful and that he will be a special father to Macilongo’s children and an exceptional husband to his wife. To Macilongo’s family, he advised them to never shy away from the Lord. He said they will need the Lord to make strides. He advised them to hold each other’s hands and respect one another.

Pray

“A stalwart and giant has fallen, but as a family, we will not lose our focus of continuing to pray to the Lord to raise more stalwarts and giants, as others have fallen in the family tree before,” he said. On another note, one of the deceased’s brothers, Saneliso, who spoke on behalf of his siblings, said no one bullied him when he was growing up because that person had to contest with Macilongo. “Just like one of his names; Themba (trust), he could be trusted,” Saneliso said. He added that Macilongo was an active person who loved sports.
He also said he was an outgoing person, who loved people. As a consequence of that, he said people used to count on him from childhood, high school and tertiary even during his adulthood.

Again, he said when their father died in 2010, Macilongo united the family. He said he became the glue and that was why all the siblings (from different mothers) were there at the memorial service, to appreciate what he did for them as family. “He was strict but responsible and he loved his children and always put them first,” the grieving brother said.
He said after his death, several colleagues shared fond memories of things he did with and for them, which included uniting them.

Responsibility

“When my mother fell sick, Macilongo took responsibility. Even now she is still alive and she is here to appreciate what our brother did for her. So, what we need to do as siblings, is to keep the family united because that is what he always wanted,” Saneliso said. He added that his brother fought a good fight in life, including in the courts of law. On the same note, another sibling, Setsabile, said when their father died in 2010, Macilongo, who was about 27 years old, became a father figure to them such that he even went with them to school during Speech and Prize Giving Day.

“In his last days, he spoke about forgiveness, family unity and respect for the family hierarchy. We promise him to remain united and we will always be there for his children,” Setsabile said. Again, his son, Nakelelwe, who was with his younger sister, Babalwa, thanked his late father for training him. He said he loved them as his children and tried all means to keep them united as a family.
