VULAMASANGO JA CHAMPS, GOING TO MAURITIUS
MANZINI - Vulamasango High School has done it again.
For the second time in a row, the school will represent Eswatini in Mauritius in December 2024.The school was crowned Junior Achievement (JA) Eswatini national champions for the year 2024 yesterday, during the JA Eswatini National Competition, which was held at The George Hotel in Manzini. This was the 16th Company of the Year Competition and it was hosted by JA Eswatini, under the theme ‘Greenovation.’ Vulamasango High School is one of six schools, which competed for the national champion position. The pupils built an Electro-Culture Generator. On the other hand, St Mary’s High School and Moyeni High School made it to the top three.
Vulamasango also won three other awards; Most Innovative Company, Best Kept Records and Excellence in Project Management. Meanwhile, Moyeni High School won the Best Theme Award, while U-Tech School took home the Most Viable Business Award. Kukhanyeni High School won the Best Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Award.
Development
Before awarding the winners, the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Trade, Manqoba Khumalo, who was represented by the Principal Secretary (PS) in the ministry, Melusi Masuku, said the theme ‘Greenovation’ resonates with the nation's commitment to sustainable development and economic growth. He then commended JA Eswatini for its unwavering dedication to fostering the entrepreneurial spirit among the youth. He said the organisation’s efforts in equipping young minds with the skills and knowledge to create innovative and sustainable businesses were invaluable to the nation's progress.The minister said the theme ‘Greenovation’ was particularly timely, as they grappled with the challenges of climate change and resource scarcity.Therefore, he said it was inspiring to see young entrepreneurs at the forefront of developing solutions that address these pressing issues, while also creating economic opportunities. The minister said government recognised the critical role of entrepreneurship in driving economic growth and job creation.

He also said the JA Alumni Awards showed them that these business ideas were important. To the youth, he said: “Embrace the challenges as opportunities for growth and innovation. Network with other entrepreneurs, seek mentorship and leverage available resources to scale up your businesses.” He added that the innovation and pride exhibited by the participating schools in this year's competition were a testament to the transformative power of the JA programme.
He said it was also inspiring to witness the young minds of the nation ignited with entrepreneurial spirit and a deep sense of responsibility.
To the pupils, he said as they compete for the Company of the Year title, they should remember that the true victory lies in the knowledge, skills and experiences they gain throughout the competition. He said whether they won or not, they were all winners in the eyes of this nation.
Moreover, he said they had a good representation by Vulamasango High School in 2023 in Rwanda, and they look forward to the winners (Vulamasango High School) representing the nation in Mauritius in December, where they will compete with other best pupils in Africa.
