MBABANE - Residents of Jubukweni have been left with many questions after an unknown man’s body was found floating in a sacred dam in Mbuluzi River.

Information gathered was to the effect that the corpse of the man, who had long dreadlocks, was discovered by a woman, who was crossing a bridge with her child at around 11am yesterday. The bridge, which connects the road to Dlangeni, Maphalaleni and Jubukweni from Mbuluzi, is situated about 80 metres from the dam. This publication gathered that the woman called some residents to look at what appeared to be a human being in the river. From a distance, the residents discovered that it was a human body. They feared coming closer to the dam due to its history. Residents who were found at the scene said the dam was known for rituals.  They claimed that it was the same dam where a police officer’s wife entered and reportedly resurfaced in Piet Retief in the Republic of South Africa after a few days.

Healer

According to the residents, the woman was a fully fledged traditional healer when she resurfaced in South Africa. However, upon arrival at the scene, Officer Nimrod Motsa, from of the Scenes of Crime Department, jumped into the dam and returned with the corpse. The corpse was placed on a rock for assessment while the fearful residents watched from a distance.  Motsa took pictures before the corpse was loaded into a police van, that was parked some distance from the dam. “Here is a human being, does anyone know him?” asked the police, while calling for the residents to identify the body. The residents said the deceased was not known in the area.  The deceased was a bit tall and dark in complexion, with long dreadlocks. He was wearing a maroon T-shirt, black jeans with a black belt and black and white striped boxer shorts. He was wounded in the face and on the back.

Some had questions on how the body of the man got to be in the dam in the area.  Other residents were concerned about his wounds, in particular on the face and the back. However, some were quick to suspect that the corpse had been eaten by animals in the water, particular crabs, while others had the idea that he had been assaulted and dumped in the dam. Motsa warned the residents against speculating, stating that findings would be made by doctors, who were experts in examining human injuries. Motsa also warned the residents against circulating pictures of the corpse on social media, as that would be inhumane. Mbabane Police Station Desk Officer Akhona Dludlu echoed Motsa’s words. He said the manner in which the corpse was found in the river left a lot to be desired.

Example

He made an example that the deceased was found with a house key and some money in his pockets. He said the police also observed a trail leading to the dam, where the man was found. However, Dludlu stated that all the findings were subject to investigations. It was observed that the trail leading to the dam began at the end of the bridge on the road leading to Dlangeni and Maphalaleni. “Anyone with information may call Mbabane Desk Officer Akhona Dludlu at 7626 0105 or Hhohho Regional Crime Branch Officer Derrick Makhanya at 7608 9712.
“You know what you are known for in this area and I believe that you will help us with information,” said Dludlu, before leaving with the police officers. Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Senior Superintendent Phindile Vilakati confirmed a report of a man who was found dead in the Mbuluzi River yesterday. Vilakati said investigations were ongoing.
