EHA HOSTS BOTSWANA CLUB
MBABANE – The Eswatini Hockey Association (EHA) hosted its annual Indoor Hockey Tournament over an exhilarating two-day period.
EHA mentioned that it was their pleasure to have hosted and welcomed the Basil Hockey Club from Botswana, who participated in their indoor tournament. The event kicked off with a day filled with riveting excitement and high-octane performances, setting the stage for an action-packed indoor hockey extravaganza. The team from Botswana arrived on Friday, ready to compete at the Usutu Forest International facility, at Mhlambanyatsi. Reflecting on the weekend’s events, EHA Head of Development, Tinavo Mushavi, expressed his admiration for the talent displayed. “We are left in awe by the exceptional skills shown by each player, truly illustrating the exhilarating spirit of hockey,” he remarked.
Essence
His words captured the essence of the tournament, where skill, passion and teamwork took centre stage. Mushavi also took the opportunity to extend heartfelt gratitude to the participating clubs, which did not only include Basil Hockey Club, but five others. These clubs included local teams such as Mbabane, Mhlambanyatsi Lions, Bhejane and Manzini. He further mentioned that compared to last year; the playing level had improved immensely, which captures the essence of development in the country. “The finals featured Bhejane and Basil Hockey club, which produced a tightly-contested final. It could have gone either way,” said Mushavi.
In the ladies final, it was another tightly-contested affair with Basil Hockey Club, as they managed a score of 1-0 in the four quarters. He also revealed that it was no walk in the park for the club from Botswana, as they had a 4-4 draw in their group stages fixture against Manzini. Each club brought their unique flair and competitive spirit, contributing to a vibrant tournament atmosphere. In addition to acknowledging the teams, Mushavi expressed profound appreciation for the sponsors whose support made the event possible. “Without our sponsors, this tournament would not have been a reality,” he said, highlighting the importance of community collaboration. As the tournament concluded, Mushavi felt camaraderie and sportsmanship prevailed, showcasing the powerful synergy of mutual support among all participants.
