MANZINI – Prime Minister (PM) Russell Mmiso Dlamini was yesterday shown drugs that are snorted in the country.

The PM toured the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) stalls at the Eswatini International Trade Fair (EITF) held at Mavuso Trade Exhibition and Centre in Manzini yesterday.
The PM was shown different types of drugs that are common in the black market. The police displayed them at their stalls to educate people about their effects. REPS displayed marijuana seeds, mandrax, heroin, cocaine, tobacco and crystal meth.

Public

On another note, sharing ideas with Nkosingiphile Gule, the Acting Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Eswatini Housing Board (EHB) during a tour of this public enterprise’s exhibition stalls, the PM said the construction of courts should be prioritised and be considered when infrastructural developments take place. Taken through a variety of programmes that EHB seeks to undertake throughout the country, the PM pointed out that courts should also be prioritised when spaces for offices had been being identified and reserved by EHB. He said they should not be left out in any developmental initiative. Gule and Khulile Dlamini, the Head of Operations, briefed the PM on the parastatal’s projects. He was impressed and looked forward to seeing them take off the ground.

He was shown the architectural impression of the King Mswati III Housing Precinct at Sikhuphe, where EHB will facilitate the construction of commercial and residential structures.
The construction of a stadium is part of the projects under the King Mswati III Housing Precinct. The PM toured the stalls unaccompanied by any of the Cabinet ministers.  Bertram Stewart, the Principal Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, said the premier was not able to communicate properly with them on time so that they could prepare to join him in the tour. The PM was out of the country to represent His Majesty King Mswati III in the Indonesia-Africa Summit.

Indonesia hosted a gathering of African leaders in Bali last week in a bid to grow economic and trade ties. But many African countries were not represented, with leaders opting to attend a separate forum in Mainland China. The Indonesia-Africa Forum was seen as an opportunity for Southeast Asia’s largest country to boost trade ties with Africa and seek out new export markets. However, the three-day forum struggled to attract a large showing of African countries.

Meanwhile, the PM visited his former employer’s stall – the National Disaster Management Agency (NDMA), where he served as the chief executive officer. He took sometime there learning about what the NDMA seek to achieve. Another interesting moment was when he advised the Eswatini Posts and Telecommunications (EPTC) to invest in technology as opposed to wanting to get things free of charge. “Nifuna tintfo tamahhala (you want things for free),” said the PM who was in a jovial mood.

Cellular

He also spent time at the Eswatini Mobile where he was shown the Honour Brand phone. He was told that Eswatini Mobile stall is the first cellular company to bring this Huawei brand into the country. He was taken through by Nosipho Xaba, the representative of the Inyatsi Group.  The cellphone, which supports 5G, has a smartwatch. The PM also went to the agriculture section, where he viewed the Boran bull. He was impressed by it, is such that he joked about it. He said it was a rare breed, very healthy and deserved to cost a high price.

After health care workers were accused of cashing in on shortage of drugs, should government allow private phamarcies to open outlets within premises of government hospitals?
