INYANGA’S BODY FOUND HANGING INSIDE INDUMBA
SITEKI – A 24-year-old traditional healer (Inyanga) of Mlangeni at Shewula was on Saturday morning found hanging on the rafters of his consultation hut (indumba).
According to the inyanga’s brother, Mgobo Masimula, family members raised the alarm after his brother, Sipho Masimula’s body, which was in a decomposed state, was found hanging from his indumba’s rafters. Mgobo said neighbours were also alerted about the gruesome discovery and police were promptly called to attend to the scene of the incident. The brother shared that they suspected that he could have engaged in an altercation with his father before resorting to taking his life. “He has been conducting his healing at home and staying alone. I heard that he had an altercation with my father before he left for work and then resorted to taking his life. My father left on Monday to return to his workplace and I was told the an argument ensued before his departure. I suspect that the feud might have been the root cause of his decision,” Mgobo said.
Masimula added that the family was still to meet on the matter and further report it to traditional authorities.
Details
“I was also away and I am yet to get full details from the neighbours before the proposed family meeting. I believe we will have answers even though he left no suicide note to assist us with what happened. We have since banked our hopes to the police who are handling the matter,” he said. Shewula Community Motivator (Umgcugcuteli) Delisile Maliba narrated that the community established that there was a family feud that resulted in Masimula committing suicide after they were not reaching a common ground on their family matters. Maliba said she was told that the deceased used a rope to hang himself from the rafters of his indumba. She stated that the police found that the corpse was in a decomposed state and suggested that he could have killed himself on Monday. Adding, Maliba shared that the deceased was staying alone but his girlfriend, who is the mother of his child constantly visited him. “It is painful that he left behind a minor. We hope the family will shed light on what transpired, leading to the deceased committing suicide,” she said.
Condolences
Shewula Bucopho Sibusiso Mabila said he has been informed about the death of Sipho and he was yet to visit the family to send condolences for the loss of life. Mabila mentioned that incidents of suicide among young people are on the rise at Shewula community. He pleaded with families to be vigilant and monitor any strange behaviour of their siblings to avoid such incidents. “It is a sad story as Sipho met his death while he was still young. I am not privy to information on what led him to do such a bad thing but I will know once the family briefed me about it,” he said. Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Senior Superintendent Phindile Vilakati said the matter was reported and the police were conducting investigations leading to the circumstances of the man who was found dead.
