MBABANE – “We have seen you go through a lot, but we had nothing to help you with, because we were also afraid.”

The above sentiments were shared by the children of the late Constable Nomfundo Sihlongonyane, during her interment yesterday morning. Speaking through the voice of Busiswa, who read their message, the children expressed that they had never thought that they would lose their mother in this way, but now that it has happened, they are coming to terms with it.

Sithembile Ndlovu, who is Nomfundo’s best friend, said they met at the Police Academy and became very close. Ndlovu stated that her friend showed her love and became more like a sister to her. She mentioned that they never contemplated that one of them would leave so soon, in such a painful manner, as they had plans and discussed what they wanted to achieve together.

“I have learnt a lot from Nomfundo and hope that I will continue to survive through some of the teachings she gave me,” Ndlovu said. She added that she will write a novel about her friend, particularly focusing on her compassion and love. Ndlovu remarked that her friend was always smiling, even in difficult situations.

Nomfundo is the police officer who was killed by her husband, who formed part of the prime minister’s security detail.  The husband, Frans Dlamini, said to have used a service firearm to end the life of his wife, before turning it on himself.  The couple had domestic challenges, which had been ongoing for a period of time.

Sources alleged that the marital challenges had seen the pair being regulars at the Mbabane Police Station. As such, leading to the murder and suicide, the husband is said to have driven to the Mbabane Police Station, where his wife had gone to lodge a complaint against him.

While at the police station, it was purported that the husband arrived and engaged his wife. The sources alleged that after engaging the wife, the husband reported that they were driving to their residential home, where they were to interrogate their issues. However, upon arrival at their homestead, the couple is said to have had a fight, which resulted in the husband shooting his wife.
