GOGO WATCHES HELPLESSLY AS: MAN RAPES EX-LOVER, KILLS HER
MANZINI – In a horrific act of violence, a 21-year-old woman was brutally raped and fatally stabbed multiple times, allegedly by her former boyfriend.
This happened in full view of an elderly woman. Nondumiso Vilakati was killed at a Msibi homestead at Nkiliji on Thursday afternoon. According to reports, Nondumiso was employed as a helper to the elderly woman, who bore witness to the gruesome crime allegedly committed by her ex-boyfriend. The assailant is alleged to have stalked Nondumiso until he found her at the elderly woman’s house, capturing and taking her to a room, where he supposedly raped and stabbed her multiple times.
Assaulted
A mob reportedly hunted down the attacker, who was found attempting to commit suicide, before he was assaulted and handed over to the police. The relationship between the deceased and her alleged killer is said to have been over for about a year, prior to the horrific incident. Despite the fact that the relationship was over, it has been established that the attacker continued to harbour intense feelings towards his former partner, leading to the unspeakable crime. Ncamsile (Nondumiso’s aunt) shared that she witnessed a shadow that she initially assumed to be her niece’s, only to shockingly discover that it was the very man who had allegedly raped Nondumiso in the past.
Ncamsile recalled the assailant barging into the house and menacingly threatening to kill both her and Nondumiso, with the elderly woman present and helpless to intervene. According to Ncamsile, the attacker forcibly seized Nondumiso and dragged her to a bedroom, where he allegedly raped her and mercilessly stabbed her repeatedly in various parts of her body, inflicting fatal wounds. “The pair had been separated for about a year, with Nondumiso initiating the breakup. However, the attacker refused to accept the end of their relationship,” shared Ncamsile. Suspecting that the rape suspect had sexually assaulted Nondumiso before murdering her, Ncamsile noted that the victim was discovered without her underwear, and her body was brutally inflicted with multiple stab wounds.
Attacker
On another note, Ncamiso Lukhele, a community police from Nkiliji, recalled that in the days preceding the fatal incident, the attacker had turned up at the village and allegedly raped Nondumiso. After being informed of the alleged heinous crime, Lukhele alerted the police who transported Nondumiso to the hospital. The perpetrator subsequently fled the scene according to the community police. Lukhele claimed that he attempted to reach out to the alleged killer by phone, but the accused refused to answer his calls. The following day, to his surprise, the alleged killer initiated contact, questioning Lukhele’s identity. He said the unexpected call raised alarms, as Lukhele sensed that something sinister was happening.
“I told him I was looking for him in relation to the rape incident. He alleged that he had found Nondumiso with another man and immediately cut my call,” Lukhele recalled.
Unsettling
Not long after, the alleged killer reportedly reached out to Lukhele again, this time requesting that he retrieves his phone and belongings from Nondumiso. Lukhele promptly visited Nondumiso to pass on the message and notify a family member of the unsettling request. He recalled that on Wednesday, the alleged rapist contacted him from a local Eswatini number, expressing his desire to retrieve his belongings from Nondumiso and imploring Lukhele to accompany him. In an effort to deescalate the situation and ensure the safety of all involved, Lukhele suggested that the alleged attacker come in person so that they could all travel together. “I then called Nondumiso’s aunt and informed her about our recent conversation. She was in church and said we would talk later,” he said.
Intentions
In response to this request, Lukhele narrated that he was advised by his colleagues to inform other community police officers and the police about the alleged killer’s intentions to visit Nondumiso. The community police said the alleged attacker informed him that he would arrive on Saturday to collect his belongings and purportedly ‘close a chapter’ on Nondumiso.
“It is until yesterday (Thursday) that I was called and informed that he came and injured Nondumiso,” the community police member said.
He said the elderly woman was fortunate to escape and raise the alarm. The community police claimed that the alleged killer had vowed to kill his ex-lover and even kill himself.
Troubled by the commotion outside, Lukhele detailed that the elderly woman, who was present, alerted the community. He said neighbours swiftly converged at the homestead, discovering that the alleged rapist had barricaded himself in the ceiling. In a desperate bid to gain entry, he said the residents utilised a pickaxe and extracted the alleged murderer from the ceiling. “He was allegedly discovered attempting to commit suicide, but was thwarted and savagely assaulted by the residents before being handed over to the authorities,” narrated Lukhele.
