LOBAMBA – There were mumbles in Senate, as the Minister of Health, Mduduzi Matsebula, warned about the use of alcohol and how it strains the health system.
This was yesterday when the minister delivered a ministerial statement, where he updated Senate on the health system. The minister mentioned some of the challenges faced by the country’s health system. He also decried some lifestyles that attract illnesses that end up burdening the health system.

Alcohol

He singled out heavy alcohol consumption as another challenge. He said people heavily indulge on alcohol. Matsebula noted that some people start consuming alcohol as a way of celebrating something, but end up taking too much. The minister urged the public to limit too much consumption of alcohol. Matsebula said too much drinking of alcohol has been cited to be the cause of some illnesses. He said emaSwati could reduce some hospital visits by reducing or even better stop alcohol consumption. As the minister was emphasising his point, there were mumbles and giggling among some of the senators in the chamber.
