MBABANE - The life of a female toddler aged two years ended tragically when she was stabbed to death by a neighbour.

The life of the neighbour also did not last long as he was said to have been assaulted by community members and he died while being attended to in hospital. The incident is said to have happened at Mbikwakhe in the Manzini Region on Friday afternoon. It was gathered that the man was used to playing with the toddler and her family did not suspect anything. On the fateful day, the toddler is said to have gone to the man’s house and after not returning home, family members decided to go look for her.

It was said that the family members knocked on the door of the man’s house and he did not open. As they became impatient, they are said to have peeped through the window and saw him grabbing a table knife, which he used to stab the toddler in the eye. It was at that point that the family members screamed for backup and some community members rushed to the home carrying all sorts of weapons, while the toddler cried for help. They are said to have forced entry into the house and assaulted the man, while the toddler laid helpless.

The community members are said to have assaulted him to a point where they cut one of his legs. As the man was being assaulted, police were called to the scene and found the man in a critical state. They are said to have taken him to the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital, where it was decided that due to the nature of his injuries he should be transferred to Mbabane Government Hospital. Sources said it was at Mbabane Government Hospital where he was certified dead. Some of the community members alleged that the child had been sexually violated. However, this was not confirmed. As they tried to come to terms with the horrible incident, some of the community members made different assumptions as to why he committed such a heinous crime.

Released

Their allegations could not be printed, as they could not be substantiated. In a report released by the Royal Eswatini Police Service (REPS) yesterday through Chief Police Information and Communications Officer Superintendent Phindile Vilakati. It was stated that on Friday at around 1pm, a two-year-old toddler died after being stabbed once on the face with a knife by a 27-year-old man of Mbikwakhe. “The suspect also died after being assaulted while at Mbikwakhe,” it was said in the police report.
