KILLED TODDLER: KILLED TODDLER: SUSPECT’S MUM’S INDUMBA SET ALIGHT

MBIKWAKHE – A consultation room (indumba) belonging to Sandile Davison Khumalo’s mother was set on fire by an angry mob at Mbikwakhe, following the tragic death of a two-year-old girl.

On Friday afternoon, Khumalo reportedly killed his neighbour’s toddler by stabbing her in the eye with a knife. The child’s mother described how she was playing Ludo with family members when Khumalo arrived, as usual carrying various items. According to the mother’s account, Khumalo took a seat carrying various items, including money, pencils, drawings, and pictures.

The mother narrated that he took the child inside the house, slamming the door behind him. Despite the family’s attempt to intervene, they were reportedly unable to stop him. Frightened, the toddler’s mother revealed that they followed him. Eventually, the mother and her relative reportedly managed to open the door and followed him inside, only to see him taking a knife and stabbing the baby in the eye, while the mother desperately asked him what he was doing.

Sandile is said to have then dragged the toddler by her leg to his homestead, just a few metres away from his neighbour’s home. It is reported that he then sat down for a while and was later seen taking the toddler inside his mother’s consultation room. He later came back and sat, something that irked residents who began assaulting him with an assortment of weapons, including sticks and bottles. They assaulted him while awaiting the arrival of the police. He later succumbed to his injuries. Four days later, Faith Dlamini’s consultation room was set ablaze. While the motive of the arson attack is unknown, residents have shared that it reflects the community’s anger and sorrow over the brutal yet mysterious toddler’s death.

Neighbours reported hearing a loud bang and seeing the room in flames, prompting the Eswatini National Fire, Rescue and Emergency Services personnel to intervene around 4am.
The community has been sharing unverified information about Dlamini (Khumalo’s mother), which cannot be repeated in this publication for ethical reasons. It has been reported that Dlamini was taken by police for her safety amid the tensions.

Senior Superintendent Phindile Vilakati, Chief Police Information and Communications Officer, confirmed the report of the fire on Monday night. When asked about claims that police had taken Dlamini to a place of safety, Superintendent Vilakati stated she could not disclose this information.
