‘MALUME’ HELD FOR PUPIL (8) RAPE AT DAY CARE

MANZINI – A 30-year-old man, who was entrusted with looking after children at a day care centre in Matsapha, has been arrested for purportedly raping an eight-year-old girl.

The man, who was referred to as ‘malume’ by the children, is said to have raped the minor girl who attends primary school in one of the schools in Matsapha. The girl had reportedly gone to the day care centre to wait for her parent to pick her up, as per the norm. With the day care owner apparently often absent from the premises, the ‘malume’ was reportedly left unsupervised, free to supposedly enact his heinous scheme. This is said to have happened last week. “The alleged rapist would often tease the young girl about making her his wife if she was older and engage in sexually suggestive behaviour such as touching her,” alleged sources.

Meanwhile, the sinister scheme reached its horrific conclusion when, on the day in question, the ‘malume’ is alleged to have enticed the minor girl with sweets, luring her away from her peers and into bed, under the pretext of ‘play’. With the other children seated on the floor, unaware of what was unfolding, the ‘malume’ is alleged to have coaxed the girl under the bed covers. While the other children were sitting on the floor, the man purportedly asked the girl to take off her underwear and then raped her under the blanket. He is said to have used protection while allegedly engaging in the heinous crime, but he did not know that the girl’s friend was watching from the bed and saw everything, according to the sources.

The man allegedly convinced the girls not to tell anyone about what had happened. The owner of the day care centre reportedly returned, and the parents of the minors came to collect their children. The man was arrested and appeared at the Manzini Magistrates Court, where he made a confession. “It was when the victim’s friend got home and told her parents about what she had seen, that the matter came to their attention. They immediately called the day care owner to inform her of the ordeal,” the sources revealed.

It was reported that the day care owner promptly went to ascertain the details of the situation and received the same account at the victim’s friend’s home. The man was subsequently visited and asked to verify the information, which he allegedly confirmed. According to the sources, the mother of the minor girl was informed, and she stated that the matter should be reported to the police. It was revealed that the incident was indeed reported to the police in the presence of the man, who was subsequently arrested. The man later appeared at the Manzini Magistrates Court to confess.
