PM MUST PULL UP HIS SOCKS - LOBAMBA MP
LOBAMBA - Lobamba Member of Parliament Michael Masilela (MP) has advised the Prime Minister (PM), Russell Mmiso Dlamini to pull up his socks.
The MP was making a submission during the debate of the policy statement which the PM tabled in Parliament. Masilela first asked the PM to speak to his Cabinet ministers to submit Bills in Parliament. He said he had hoped that with the appointment of the current Cabinet, things would go well, but that so far, there is nothing to write home about. Elaborating in his submission, the MP said when following up, Parliament ends up losing direction, something which leads to a situation where one could conclude that there is a clash.
“We are all expected to build the country and do so with respect. “The Executive must not forget that they need to submit Bills in Parliament. Once they have done that, they then follow up on the progress so that the Bills do not delay. At this point, nothing much has been done. In the policy statement, the PM says all emaSwati will work to transform the economy. We have raised questions and motions here, but still people are dying in hospitals, yet we are here,” he said.
Masilela said it now appears like nothing is being done to solve the challenges faced by emaSwati. He then asked that the PM must pull up his socks. In vernacular, the MP said, “Umuntfu bekangacela kutsi ndvunankhulu amane aphakamise emasokisi.”He said the whole nation looked up to the PM and that if things did not go well in government, the whole country will have a challenge. He made an example of a situation where an MP would travel to Mbabane to seek assistance from a director of a certain department in a ministry and find that he or she is not available. “When such happens, the PM must pull up his socks because all government departments must work under supervision and direction. “They must know that action will be taken if they do not do their job,” he said. Masilela also made reference to the challenges in the Judiciary and said so much has been said, but still nothing has been done.
Transform
He said as MPs, they have a responsibility to respect the Office of the PM and Cabinet in general and that he needs to work with them by helping to address the concerns of the people including drugs shortage.
