WOMAN SCALDS SISTER, 2 KIDS WITH HOT WATER
MBABANE – A tiff between two sisters over one allegedly using the other’s room, has resulted in two minor children being scalded with hot water.
The minors, who are three years old, were burnt together with *Buhle (21), who was looking after them, when her enraged elder sister scalded them with the water. It has been gathered that the trio was rushed to the Mbabane Government Hospital after sustaining severe injuries. According to Buhle, the bone of contention was that her sister accused her of putting some of her items in her room. She said it was not the first time her elder sister had issues with her. Buhle said she denied putting some of her belongings in her sister’s room. According to the complainant, Buhle, her sister advised her at some point to refrain from her conduct.
“I tried to ask her to tell me the things she said I put in her room. She said I know them. I told her that I was not the one who put those items she referred to. She then told me to stop giving her an attitude while walking towards me,” Buhle said. She further stated that there was hot water in a kettle and her sister picked it up and approached her, asking why she responded to her in a manner she said she should not have. “I then told her to stop making any conversation with me since she was not happy about the manner I was responding to her. She then laughed at me. I asked her what I must do in order to respond nicely to her.“She asked me to repeat the question. She then scalded me with the hot water. I sustained injuries on my head, neck and all over my body. The two minors were also burnt by the hot water, since they were on my lap,” said Buhle. According to Buhle, the incident occurred between 7.30pm and 8pm last Wednesday. The accused is said to have left the scene without apologising to her sister.
Failed
She said her sister failed tell her why she scalded the minors with the hot water, since they did nothing wrong. “She ran away after committing the offence. We have been looking for her after the incident. We got information that she was in Matsapha. She surrendered herself to the Manzini police on Saturday,” said Buhle. Meanwhile, Buhle said both children sustained serious injuries after the tragic incident. One of the minors, according to Buhle, sustained injuries on his arms and all over the body, while the other, on the face as well as all over the body. “We received treatment upon arrival at the hospital. Our wounds were washed with clean water before we were bandaged. We were told to come back the following day to change the bandages,” she said.
Following the incident, Mbalenhle Dlamini was charged with three counts under the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence (SODV) Act No.15 of 2018. Dlamini is alleged to have contravened Section 77 (1) (a) of the SODV Act. When appearing before Principal Magistrate Fikile Nhlabatsi, her rights to legal representation were explained to her by the Crown, and she elected to conduct her own defence. Dlamini was accused of physically abusing her sister Buhle, by scalding her with hot water. She is said to have committed the offence on October 23, 2024, at Sandla. In the second and third counts, on the same day, the accused allegedly scalded the two minors with hot water. When the charges were read to Dlamini, she pleaded guilty to all of them. The Crown moved an application to have the her remanded in custody until November 7, 2024, pending the complainants’ recovery.
