MBABANE – “I wanted to make him weak, so that I can leave the house, after he had assaulted me.”

Makhosazane Mazibuko cited jealousy as the reason for assaulting her boyfriend, Celumusa Magongo. She admitted to slapping him, biting his arm and scratching his private parts.Mazibuko told the court that she had no other option other than making Magongo weak, so that she could open the locked door and leave the house. She told the court that she does not want to separate with Magongo. She pleaded for the court’s leniency, stating that she has three children who are solely dependent on her. Magistrate Chazile Thwala sentenced Mazibuko to one year imprisonment with an option to pay a fine of E2 000.

Mazibuko’s relatives approached the court for a protection order. The relatives, who consoled Mazibuko after her conviction, said they did not want to lose her as a result of the continued violence. The family was advised to come on another day as there were too many people seeking protection orders.

Fight

Worth noting is that Magongo appeared before Mbabane Magistrate Fikile Nhlabatsi, charged for assaulting and biting his girlfriend on Tuesday. He also claimed that he acted in self-defence after Mazibuko squeezed his private parts during a fight, which ensued after a short argument. He told the court that he accused his girlfriend of not being truthful when he asked her about her whereabouts, before he arrived in the house.

The principal magistrate warned Magongo against acting on suspicions. Nhlabatsi said being in love with a woman does not mean a man is entitled over her life. Magongo appeared in court alongside Cebile Masina, who is accused of strangling and squeezing the private parts of her boyfriend, Sergeant Raymond Nxumalo. Masina claimed that Nxumalo refused to buy her cigarettes after a drinking spree.

Masina has been remanded in custody until November 15, 2024, while Nxumalo is recovering from complications resulting from the assault. The magistrate warned Masina against such violent actions, emphasising the potential fatal consequences of squeezing a man’s private parts.
