MANKAYANE - Dr Archbishop Siphahluka Sibandze yesterday recieved offerings amounting to E450 000.

The 36-year-old bishop, who is also a prophet and businessman, received the cash from different churches during his birthday celebration held at The Faith Apostolic Church of God in Zion in Mankayane over the weekend.Sibandze confirmed the amount after the different churches offered different amounts of money during the course of the all-night service.Sibandze thanked all those who contributed to the offerings. At the time of the interview, at 10:05am, Sibandze said the congregants from different churches had contributed E450 000. He said the figures were not final, as another church was about to make offerings.

Background

Members of the church were awaiting their bishop during the course of the interview. “I plead with God to teach me to humble myself before Him and the people at all times, he said. Asked about his background, Sibandze, who was born at Ntjabane in Mankayane, said he came from humble beginnings, where he never inherited anything. He said after completing high school at St Paul’s in 2007, he worked at World Vision. He said he also worked as a tractor driver and mechanic, before he enrolled for teaching at William Pitcher College in 2010 and completed in 2013. At the time, he said he had a gift of prophecy.

"I was hired as a teacher at Nkanyezini, before I started my transport business in 2014. I served in the teaching profession until I was promoted to the position of deputy head teacher,” he said. Sibandze said God called him to focus on his calling in 2018. He said he then left the teaching profession and focused on his calling and business. This, Sibandze said, demonstrated the grace and powers placed upon him.

"The gift of prophecy and healing gave birth to this church. I believe that my experience in the teaching profession has helped a lot in strengthening my leadership skills. As a teacher, I learnt to manage children. I also learnt to manage adults, as a deputy head teacher,” he said. Asked how he survived challenges as a leader, Sibandze said he taught himself not to be involved in church politics. Instead, he said there was a committee that dealt with political affairs, while he focused on the spiritual part of his calling.

He said now that he is a fully fledged professor; it meant he had to do things differently. Sibandze said the offerings would go a long way in his ministry as he devoted himself to helping different sectors of society. It should be noted that Sibandze never misses out on the presentation of tetfulo to the King when the opportunity avails itself. He stunned many when he presented six pregnant cows to the King recently.

Meanwhile, some congregants were taken by surprise when one of the church leaders from South Africa reportedly offered E60 000 cash to Sibandze. According to the congregants, the South African bishop took out the E200 and 100 South African notes from his bag and handed them over to Sibandze. Worth noting is that Sibandze's birthday gift came at a time when some legislators registered their desire to have churches taxed, as they felt they made a lot of money. However, Minister of Home Affairs Princess Lindiwe said it be unwise to tax churches.
