MAN STEALS E16 700 ITEMS, CONVICTED
PIGG’S PEAK – A 21-year-old man was convicted on four counts of stealing items valued at E16 700 between January and September this year.
The accused, Sonnyboy Boyzen Sihlongonyane, faced charges of housebreaking with intent to steal and theft. In the first count, it was said that on January 18, 2024, in the Macembeni area, he broke into Siyabonga Mazibuko’s house, through a window, and stole a welding machine and lighting kits worth E4 300. In the second count, on June 30, 2024, at Mhlatane quarters, the accused person broke and entered into a house belonging to Ncamiso Mkhatshwa and further stole property valued at E3 400. The items included a black Toshiba laptop and a blue volcano school bag all valued at E3 400.
Meanwhile, in the third count, he was charged with the same offence of housebreaking with intent to steal and theft. He committed the offence on September 4, 2024, at Mhlatane Quarters. He is said to have broken into the house of Siphiwe Sibiya, through a window and stole items valued at E6 210. The items include a black Asus laptop, radio, gold watch, 100ml perfume and 100 grammes of Vaseline. At Mhlatane quarters in the Hhohho Region, the accused person broke and entered into the house of Sindisiwe Nokuthula Qulu, where he allegedly stole a grey HP laptop valued at E3 500.
Sihlongonyane accepted the plea of guilty on all counts. Some of the items were not recovered. Sihlongonyane apologised for his actions, mentioning that he has two children. He further stated that he is employed at a car wash. Hearing the matter was Pigg’s Peak Magistrate Sibonelo Dlamini. She sentenced the accused to two years imprisonment with an option of a fine of E2 000; in count two she sentenced the accused to 15 months imprisonment with an option of a fine of E1 500. In the third count, Dlamini sentenced the accused to two years imprisonments with an option of a fine of E2 000 and in the last count, he was sentenced to 15 months imprisonment with an option of a fine of E1500. Dlamini ordered count one and three to run consecutively and count two and four to run concurrently as it happened in the same month.
