MBABANE – Zakhona Sibandze, the woman who gained popularity for making submissions about sex at the Sibaya, hinted to some community members that she was about to commit suicide.

Sibandze, a teacher at Matsapha Government Primary School, ingested a poisonous pill on Friday and succumbed to poison. Her passing was confirmed by a relative yesterday.Sibandze, from Velebantfu in the Shiselweni Region, went to a local general dealer and found people at a shop. The relative revealed that Sibandze told the people she found at the shop that they were seeing her for the last time. This was after she had already ingested the poisonous pill. The relative revealed that Sibandze bought the pill at an agriculture shop, little did they know that she intended to end her life.

The relative said Sibandze arrived at home on Friday and found that her grandmother who resides at the homestead, was not there. “She proceeded to the agriculture shop and bought the pills. Then she went to a local shop and told the people that they were seeing her for the last time and this was after she had ingested the pill. She then vomited and the people could tell that she had ingested a poisonous pill, judging by its smell,” she said. The energetic Sibandze created hype at the last Sibaya late last year when making her submissions, shouting ‘seyisukile Wena Phakathi’, giving the impression that what she was about to present deserved everyone’s attention.

However, she started telling the audience that her mother, who was unmarried, abstained from sex and she didn’t know what her reasons were.Astonished, the crowd started murmuring, wondering what that had to do with the topic of economic sustainability and fighting corruption, which the people had been requested to dwell on and share ideas around. While still mesmerised by the submission, Sibandze continued to reveal that her father also refrained from sexual activity. Before she concluded the sentence on it, the crowd was up on its feet calling for her removal from the podium.

“Take that woman off the stage, she is busy telling us about sex, something we have no business with. Akakhweshe, luhlanya lolu, ingenaphi i-sex lana,” shouted the crowd.Puzzled by the crowd’s reaction, Sibandze was seen leaning towards the programme director, Sifiso Mashampu Khumalo, as if enquiring what the crowd was furious about. For at least 60 seconds, the crowd was up in arms ordering her removal from the stage. It was after a brief moment of fury from the crowd that Sibandze eventually gave up the microphone and went off the stage, evidently disappointed judging from her facial expression. Her disappointment was also magnified by her decision to actually leave the cattle byre a few moments after leaving the stage, as she was seen negotiating her way out and leaving through the Sibaya main gate.
