MBABANE - A pastor has taken his client to the Small Claims Court for allegedly failing to pay him for spiritual services when applying for a loan.

The prophet said he charged his client a sum of E8 000 for the loan prayer. He said he also charged him E2 000 for attracting customers to his business. In evidence, Nhlanhla Mbingo said the money was in relation to spiritual services he offered to Mprofethi Dlamini, whom he said was struggling to obtain a loan at First Finance. He said after being informed about the difficulty and requested for his services, he prayed for Dlamini who, was then awarded the loan amounting to E100 000. According to Mbingo, the agreement was that Dlamini would pay him 10 per cent once his loan application succeeded.

Certificate

However, Mbingo told the court that Dlamini refused to pay him, claiming that he did not have a certificate to render the services which he did. Mbingo then furnished the court with the certificate, saying that he reserves the right to use the name, Pentecostal Assemblies Church. He said he had no other option to ensure that Dlamini pays him, bedside approaching the Small Claims Court. He told the court that Dlamini only paid for consultation (inkanyiso), transport and ritual (kubetsela) to the tune of E2 000. When sharing his side of the story, Dlamini confirmed knowledge of Mbingo, saying he met him at Buhleni through his son-in-law.

He confirmed that Mbingo prayed for him after he informed him about his challenges in relation to the loan application at First Finance. He said as part of the introduction, his son-in-law informed him that the Mbingo was so helpful in praying for people with life challenges. He said his son in-law also informed him that Mbingo charged E200 for transport and E500 for consultation. As a result, he said he then requested for Mbingo’s contacts from his son-in-law.

“It so happened that I became a victim of  the ‘facata’ scam, where I lost a sum of E1 000 from my Mobile Money account. I recalled that I have a number of someone who can help me. I then called and asked Mbingo to pray for me,” he said. He told the court that he made it clear to Mbingo that he wanted a prayer in relation to the Mobile Money scam.

Mobile Money

He said he then mentioned in passing that he had applied for a loan at First Finance to purchase stock for his empty shop.“We agreed that we meet for prayer and I was in Mbabane at the time. I sent him money via Mobile Money, so that he could come and pray for me. Before he prayed, he gave me rocks to hold with one hand while the other held a coin,” he said.  Dlamini further told the court that Mbingo instructed him to speak to the rock.  He said there was never any agreement entered in relation to the claim before court. He said, when engaged in the business, he was only aware that Mbingo’s money was E500 and E200, which he demanded upfront.

“I did not extend credit to Mbingo, so how then can I owe him?” asked Dlamini.  Dlamini further told the court that Mbingo threatened him. Mbingo interjected and told the court that the E500 was not a payment but merely a consultation fee. He added that he charged a certain percentage of what his client got once they were successful. In the case of Dlamini, Mbingo said he wanted E8 000 from the E100 000 loan.

He told the court that Dlamini would not have received the money had it not been for the spiritual services rendered to him. He said all he expected from Dlamini was to deposit the money into his bank account. However, Dlamini denied having entered into any agreement with Mbingo over the payment for services rendered after the loan payment. He also denied that his children called and thanked Mbingo after the loan payment. He said it was not his first time working with finance, which gave him the impression that Mbingo’s prayer helped him to obtain the loan. “As I stated earlier, Mbingo is threatening my life, he collected soil from my premises and around the four tyres of my car.  May I further state that Mbingo failed to show what exactly he did, warranting me to pay him the sum of money stated in his claim,” he said.
