HEATWAVE: 3 DROWN IN 1 DAY
MBABANE – The recent heatwave has seen three people drowning in one day.
Two of the deceased are said to have drowned while swimming in rivers on Wednesday. The first incident happened at Mzimpofu River situated at Thulwane, where a 14-year-old girl of Mdumezulu reportedly drowned while swimming. In an almost similar incident, a 16-year-old boy is said to have drowned while swimming at Mbuzi Beshuki Dam under Lobamba.
At Siphofaneni, a 38-year-old man of Gucuka is said to have drowned in Mhlathuze River at Madlenya. Drowning seems to be on the rise as it has claimed many lives within a short space of time. A man of KaPhunga reportedly drowned while praying with his colleagues at Manzamnyana.
A scholar reportedly drowned during his trip with his colleagues at Mantenga. In another most recent incident, a deputy sherriff reportedly drowned after he slipped into the Usutu River. The Royal Eswatini Police Service has always warned the public against swimming and crossing flooded rivers, especially during the rainy season. These latest fatalities add to a growing number of drowning incidents that have occurred recently. In light of these tragic events, the Royal Eswatini Police Service is urging the public to exercise extreme caution when swimming in rivers and dams, especially during periods of high temperatures.
