EBIS LETISHISAKO HOST NONHLANHLA RESIGNS AFTER PROMOTION
MBABANE - EBIS news presenter and ‘Letishisako’ host Nonhlanhla Gama has resigned from the radio station.
Information gathered is to the effect that Gama, who had served for over 15 years as a news gatherer and presenter, resigned a few weeks after she was promoted to the position of news editor.
Unknown
However, the reasons behind her resignation remain unknown. When sought for comment yesterday, Gama only confirmed that she resigned from the radio station. She said she had nothing much to say concerning her resignation except to mention that she is fine where she is. While on-air during the morning radio show, Gama was known for asking interviewees hard questions on issues of public interest.
Interviewees
Gama would start with light questions before switching to the hard questions. Some interviewees would request pre-interviews, so that they could prepare themselves before going on-air, while others avoided going on-air at all with her. In one of her interviews, Gama was interrupted, resulting in listeners sensing censorship while interviewing political analyst and former University of Eswatini (UNESWA) lecturer, Dr Petros Qambukusa Magagula on political affairs in the country. Some listeners demanded that Gama proceed with the interview after the technical problem was sorted, however, it never happened.
Employees
Eswatini Broadcasting and Information Services (EBIS) Director, Sabelo Dlamini, said comments concerning employees were reserved for the employer. Dlamini said hiring and promotion is an employer-to-employee issue.
