UPGRADING SCHOOL PRACTISING WITHOUT MINISTRY’S CERTIFICATION

MBABANE – As parents prepare for schools opening, the Ministry of Education and Training has warned against uncertified upgrading schools.

A facility offering upgrading lessons inside the capital city by the name Pro Life Academy offered upgrading classes in the past year while not registered or certified by the ministry. Velile Mabusela, who is  believed to be in charge  of Pro Life, was previously involved in a misunderstanding  with  Ernest Magongo over the use of  Pro-Learning Tuition Centre. Magongo   is the director of  Pro-Learning. It is alleged that Mabusela illegally used Pro-Learning brand name for about two years before shifting to Pro Life. She admitted that she was not aware that a certification from the Ministry of Education and Training was needed to operate an upgrading school.

Upgrading

“We are basically an upgrading centre with a trading licence. Most of our pupils use the Sebenta Centre to write their examinations. We didn’t know registration with the ministry is a necessity for upgrading schools,” Mabusela said when this publication visited her offices. Mabusela affirmed that they no longer use the brand of Pro-Learning Tuition Centre, but only their past exam papers to test their pupils. In a letter seen by Eswatini News dated October 2023, Magongo alleged that a parent once paid E3 000 for his child’s tuition to Pro-Learning account despite that they had no centre in Mbabane.

“I would like to remind you that in March 2023, I came to your office and found Pro-Learning posters on the wall and you (Mabusela) confirmed that you are using our brand name for your business. I told you that this must stop. Our agreement was that you can only use the furniture and everything in the office, except our brand name,” Magongo’s letter to Mabusela read in part. Magongo demanded that Mabusela must state how she was going to compensate Pro-Learning Tuition Centre for using their brand name without a valid agreement.

Legal

“Failure to do so will result in legal action being taken against yourself,” the letter continued. Pro-Learning is certified by the Ministry of Education and has been operating for over 20 years.
