AUNT FINDS ‘MISSING’ NEPHEW DEAD IN HOUSE
MBABANE – Imagine having to cope with discovering the lifeless body of your nephew at a decomposed state.
That is the unfortunate tribulation that befell Girlie Motsa who discovered the body of his deceased nephew, Themba Motsa (35) of Siphocosini, who had presumably gone missing for over 48 hours. Themba was last seen on Friday, January 3, 2025, after he went to play a pool game at a local hang out spot at Siphocosini. According to Girlie, the deceased told his friends that he was not feeling well as his back was in extreme pain.

She narrated that the deceased then told his friends that he was leaving as he intended lying down to ease the pain, and he left. “His friends told us that the pain was bothering him so much that he did not consume any alcohol on the day yet he would normally do so under normal circumstances,” detailed girlie. Girlie initially revealed that the deceased was a self-employed individual who earned a living by retrieving river sand from nearby rivers and selling it to potential buyers. He also procured maize cobs, roasted them and sold them for profit.
She recounted that the deceased would normally leave early in the morning and come back late, so much that they did not immediately notice his disappearance until his friends called to enquire about him. “It was until his friends called us to enquire about his health that we were made aware he was not well and had been out of the public eye for at least two days,” she said. Girlie revealed that on Sunday, she went to the deceased’s house within the compound and they discovered that the locking key was inside the house, suggesting that he was in the house.
She, together with family members, forcefully opened the window and they made the shocking discovery. The family said it is still waiting for the post mortem to determine the cause of death but they were shattered by his untimely demise. Meanwhile, the recent weeks have seen a disturbing trend with a series of reported suicides, particularly among elderly individuals.
This has raised concerns about the growing mental health challenges facing the aging population in the country. In one tragic incident, a 70-year-old man was found hanging from a guava tree in his fields at Kukhanyeni. He was discovered by his son around 10:30am and was certified dead at Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital The circumstances surrounding his death are currently under investigation by local authorities.Meanwhile, a 69-year-old man of Ntambande at Mpolonjeni, committed suicide by ingesting a poisonous substance. He was found already dead by his son. In another suicide case, on Thursday at 4pm, a 44-year- old man of Siphofaneni also ended his life by ingesting a poisonous substance while at Sidwashini Correctional Service camp inside a motor vehicle.
