ALL-WHITE COFFIN, DRESS CODE FOR BISHOP NASH’S LIFE CELEBRATION
MANZINI – Normally, black is associated with funerals in the kingdom, but at the memorial service of the late Bishop Dr Nash Shongwe, white was the theme of the day.
This was the scene yesterday during the memorial service of the founder of Divine Healing Ministries, which was held at the Divine Healing Church in Manzini, where at least 2 000 people gathered to remember a man who was described as a husband, father, grandfather and believer.
The all-white casket, transported by a hearse from Dups Funeral Services was followed by several vehicles, while led by a police escort to control traffic.
In addition to being a bishop, Shongwe was also a member of Liqoqo and for this he was praised by Prophet Robert Kasaro, for representing the church in the corridors of power. Mourners began to arrive as early as 9am while the casket carrying the body of the late bishop arrived around 11am. As the doors of the hearse that was carrying the casket opened, it was the colour that caught everyone’s attention. His wife, as well as some of the children and grandchildren also wore white outfits.
Noteworthy, some of the mourners also arrived wearing white while the majority appeared to maintain the black colour. As the memorial proceeded, Apostle Madudu Mabuza who was one of the programme directors, praised the late bishop for the role he played in his Christian life. The funeral was characterised by music and dance and speeches to remember Shongwe, mostly for his sense of humour. He was praised as someone who always used humour even when he preached even a serious sermon.
Notably, though some of the relatives were spotted crying uncontrollably, particularly while the casket was entering the church, the service was mostly characterised by a celebration of his life. In fact, most speakers said they were ‘celebrating the life of a giant of faith’. Speakers arrived not only from around the country but also from neighbouring South Africa (SA). Bishop ND Nhlapo, who said he had known Shongwe for over 20 years was one of the preachers who arrived to share his experience with Shongwe.
