POSITIVE RESPONSE FOR GRADUATE IN BOLD JOB HUNT

MBABANE – A graduate, who took to the streets in search of a job, has gained attention, with two major companies offering her interviews after a social media backlash.
Simile Masuku, a 24-year-old Business Administration graduate from the Southern Africa Nazarene University (SANU), made headlines yesterday after taking matters into her own hands to find employment. With youth unemployment in the country at an alarming 56 per cent, Masuku decided that submitting applications alone would not open the doors to a job. On Monday, she donned her graduation gown and took to the streets of Ezulwini, near the American Embassy, to search for work in person. The bold move attracted significant attention on social media, much of it critical. Many commentators ridiculed Masuku for going public with her job search, calling her actions embarrassing. Some suggested that instead of seeking employment, she should start her own business. One individual even wrote: “But sisi wami shem, you have Business Administration training and qualification to handle business, you should be the one creating business ideas.”

Despite the harsh backlash, Masuku remained determined. “One company invited me to an interview today (yesterday), and I hope everything will go well,” she said, expressing optimism about the future. However, she also shared the personal toll of the experience. After her number was made public, she received numerous calls, many of them unsolicited. “Some of the calls were harsh, with people telling me I was embarrassing myself by going public,” she recalled. “One person even suggested that I should start a business instead.”

Supportive

In contrast to the negativity, several supportive messages flooded in. A message from a Facebook user read: “You don’t need a job. You were taught to create jobs. Find an idea to sell your skills, we will support you.” Another comment offered encouragement: “All the best young one. Please make sure you exercise patience with everything you need. Your time and your turn will come.”Masuku’s story highlights the growing challenges facing graduates in the country, where job opportunities are scarce and many are questioning traditional career paths. However, her determination to take action has proven that sometimes, a bold move can turn the tide.
