PIGG’S PEAK – A hunting expedition took a horrifying turn for a hunter when he discovered the decomposed body of a 40-year-old woman on the mountain. The incident occurred between Efasini under Chief Mvelase and Vusweni under Chief Mfokati, on Tuesday under Mayiwane Inkhundla. This death is one of five which happened in 24 hours across the country. The various incidents happened across the country and they included the demise of an 18-month-old baby girl, who drowned in a 20-litre bucket, which was half-filled with water and clothes while at Nkalashane. The toddler was certified dead at Nkalashane Clinic.  Meanwhile, the woman who was found decomposed on a mountain was discovered by Mhawu Muntu Ndlovu.  The hunter who made the gruesome discovery explained how he found the deceased in the early hours of Tuesday.

He recounted that while hunting with his six dogs, they alerted him to the shocking discovery. One of his dogs returned with a human hand in its mouth.“Following the trail, I was met with an overpowering, very strong stench. As I approached, I found the woman’s body in a highly decomposed state and my other dogs were eating it,” he said. Ndlovu explained that the woman was wearing only her underwear, with a head shawl lying nearby.

Decomposition

He said the advanced state of decomposition made her identification virtually impossible for him to see if she had any wound stabs. “The state of decomposition suggests that she had been deceased for some time,” he said. Ndlovu stated that he immediately stopped his dogs from feeding on the deceased and reported the incident to the other family members and community police, who subsequently alerted official police officers. He stated that police officers arrived at the scene and transported the deceased’s remains for further investigation.
When sought for comment, Magolide Ndwandwe, the Mayiwane Constituency Indvuna, expressed profound sorrow over the tragic incident.

He said: “To our knowledge, there have been no reports of missing persons in the area. However, we extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, even though we do not yet know who they are. We trust that they will come forward.” Ndwandwe further stated that this incident is shocking and occurred at a time when the country is facing a high number of reported cases of gender-based violence (GBV) and he strongly condemned such acts. “The chances of women being harmed by other women are minimal. This incident highlights the urgent need to address the issue of violence against women in our society,” the constituency indvuna said.

Missing

When he was asked if the was any report of a missing person in the community and whether they alerted the community of the discovery of the decomposed unknown woman, he responded by saying there were no reports and they have notified the constituency chiefdoms, but so far no one has come to identify the deceased woman. Assistant Superintendent Nosipho Mnguni, the Deputy Chief Police Information and Communications Officer, confirmed the discovery of the decomposed body of an unknown woman in her early 40s.
However, she stated that the police are still investigating the woman’s identity.
