SUSPECTED FRAUD IN TIMBASHA PAYMENTS
NGABEZWENI - Suspected fraudulent activities have caused delay in the payments of timbasha to some Ingaja and warriors.
This was revealed by Indvuna Magcobisa when addressing the warriors and Ingaja prior to the distribution of timbasha at Ngabezweni Royal Residence yesterday. Timbasha refers to a token of appreciation given by the King to regiments (libutfo) for their participation in the annual Incwala Ceremony, the country’s most significant cultural event. The money was distributed in brown envelopes as some Ingaja and warriors did not register for UNAYO accounts.
Reasons
Magcobisa started by apologising for the delay. He said it was caused by several reasons including fraudulent activities during the registration process. It was discovered that some warriors submitted multiple lists, attempting to receive payments twice, even after being paid through the UNAYO system. Furthermore, the investigation revealed the inclusion of individuals who did not participate in the cultural activities. “Besitsi kunekuganga lokukhona kani vele kukhona mbamba,” he said in vernacular loosely translating to: “Yes there are fraudulent activities as per our suspicions. It was a disaster when it came to your personal identity cards. They did not match your particulars,” he said before calling upon warriors from Lwandle to see their mess.
Warriors
Magcobisa promised to pay timbasha to the deserving warriors at imiphakatsi level if they missed out. When they heard of the cause of the delay, some Ingaja called for the punishment of the implicated culprits. “Where are they, we cannot suffer just because someone decided to try his luck through fraudulent means. We cannot spend two days in the sun just because some decided to steal,” murmured Ingaja when they heard of the fraudulent activities. While at the royal residence, it transpired that some warriors spent the whole day on Saturday without food. Some of those who came from far away places said they spent the night under the trees due to lack of transport.
“Some of us had nothing to eat since yesterday and it does not paint a good picture at all,” said the warriors. However, the warriors and Ingaja who were at the royal residence since morning were filled with joy as they saw a convoy of white GD6 vans arriving with the cash. They quickly formed queues before they were addressed. When this report was compiled, some of the warriors had started receiving timbasha. Worth noting is that tindvuna from all imiphakatsi were urged to register all Ingaja and warriors, who participated at the annual Incwala Ceremony from fetching lusekwane to the weeding of royal fields.
During the preparatory meeting, which was held at Ludzidzini Royal Residence, tindvuna were urged to register names of the participants and attach their personal identity cards next to their names. Warriors and Ingaja with cellphones were urged to register a UNAYO for the payment of timbasha. Inyatsi Indvuna Bahlole Ndzimandze was on record warning tindvuna against fraudulent activities, saying such could lend people in jail. He said prison doors would always be open to those who would be found to have engaged in fraudulent activities. Also, when summoned to the royal residence across the country, warriors and Ingaja were warned against taking chances as systems were in place to guard against fraud.
