15 PASSENGERS INJURED AS DRIVER JUMPS FROM MOVING VEHICLE
MBABANE - Fifteen passengers on board a Toyota Quantum were injured after the driver reportedly jumped out, leaving them inside before it plunged into a donga and overturned. Information gathered was to the effect that the driver jumped out of the moving vehicle after losing control of it while negotiating a sharp turn at the T-junction leading to Fonteyn. It is said that the vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a donga before it overturned, causing injuries to the passengers. The injured passengers included two pregnant women, three children aged 10 and 11 and an elderly 70 years old.
Accident
The accident happened along the Mbabane/ Mdzangwini Public Road on Saturday. It has been gathered that all the passengers were rushed to the Mbabane Government Hospital.
The driver is said to have been treated and discharged together with 11 of the injured passengers, while the others were admitted for further treatment. This publication established during a visit to the hospital yesterday that some of the injured passengers were admitted. Their relatives told this journalist to seek permission from the hospital administration before he could be allowed to interview the victims. Some relatives alleged that the driver was not treated for any injury. “When was the driver treated? Anyway, it’s a long story,” said one of the victim’s relatives. At the accident scene, it could be surmised that the driver lost control of the motor vehicle at the T-junction. The motor vehicle went straight to the donga and overturned with the passengers. The Toyota Quantum was damaged extensively.
