REV MAZIBUKO’S STEPPING DOWN SHAKES ALLIANCE
MBABANE - Members of the Mbabane Alliance Church are reeling from the news that their beloved pastor, Reverend Johannes Mazibuko (JV), will be stepping down from his position on May 31, 2025. Reverend Mazibuko, a well-respected figure known for his insightful sermons and stylish demeanour, informed the congregation of his impending departure during a recent Sunday service. He neither confirmed nor denied the announcement when reached for comment yesterday. He directed all queries to the Mbabane Branch Chairperson, Jerome Shiba. This announcement has sparked a wave of disappointment among church members, who credit Reverend Mazibuko with significant spiritual and physical growth within the congregation during his tenure.
“I think the leadership of the church needs to revisit this decision,” lamented one church member who wished to remain anonymous. “Reverend Pastor Mazibuko has been instrumental in the church’s growth. He has been a father figure to many.” Concerns have been raised that Reverend Mazibuko’s departure will hinder the church’s ongoing progress. “When he made the announcement, I became teary-eyed,” shared another member. “He has been a source of guidance and support for many of us.” Reverend Mazibuko, who previously served at the Bhunya branch, has been a prominent figure within the Alliance Church for many years. His radio programmes, particularly those addressing marital issues, have garnered him a wide following.
Church members are calling on the leadership to reconsider the retirement date, arguing that Reverend Mazibuko’s departure is premature and that he should be allowed to continue serving the congregation. Mbabane Alliance Church Branch Chairperson Jerome Shiba confirmed that the pastor was leaving on May 31, 2025, the day marking the lapse of his contract. However, Shiba did say that the national executive had not yet been informed about these developments and he requested to be given time to engage with them on the matter and then issue a statement.
