MBABANE – Two suspects, including a liswati national, were arrested in Mpumalanga, South Africa, after police intercepted a vehicle carrying over a tonne of dagga with an estimated street value of E1.2 million. According to IOL News, the incident occurred on the R538 Road near Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) during a routine patrol by officers from the White River Flying Squad Unit. Police spotted a suspicious white Toyota Quantum with two occupants and pulled it over for inspection. A subsequent search revealed 50 compressed bags of dagga weighing approximately 1 020kg.

The suspects, aged 23 and 30, were arrested and charged with dealing in dagga. The liswati national also faces an immigration-related charge for being in South Africa without valid documentation. Mpumalanga acting police commissioner Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, commended the officers for their vigilance. He emphasised that there is no room for criminals to operate freely and that police will continue to work tirelessly to ensure public safety.  The suspects are expected to appear at the White River Magistrates Court soon, to face charges related to drug trafficking and immigration violations.
