MBABANE – A 39-year-old woman from Siteki has been arrested for neglecting her two minor children in Ezulwini. *Dumi, who was further charged with failing to maintain her children, appeared in court to face the consequences of her actions. During the hearing, it emerged that Dumi had abandoned her two children in Ezulwini, where she currently resides, after previously leaving three children in Siteki. She told the court that she had been to Ermelo in South Africa in search of employment.

However, she claimed that she was arrested as she entered the foreign country without a valid permit and passport. In mitigation, Dumi pleaded for leniency, asking the court to give her the opportunity to register her children’s birth certificates. However, the court ultimately sentenced her to one-year imprisonment with the option to pay a fine of E2 000, for abandoning her children. Dumi was also found guilty of failing to maintain her children, for which she was sentenced to five months in prison, with the option to pay a fine of E500.
