INYANGA CHARGED WITH MURDER OF WIFE
NHLANGANO – A 42-year-old man, Sifiso Michael Mamba, has been charged with the murder of his wife, Tandzile Hlatshwako, in Jericho.
Mamba appeared before Magistrate Jabulani Maphalala at the Shiselweni Magistrates Court on Friday, where he was charged with murder.
The prosecution alleges that on March 16, 2025, Mamba strangled his wife to death in Jericho. He was remanded in custody until 24, 2025, pending committal to the High Court, and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Investigation
According to sources close to the investigation, the tragic incident unfolded after Mamba returned from South Africa, where he reportedly practices traditional healing. He had allegedly contacted his wife via WhatsApp, arranging a meeting to discuss their relationship.
Upon his arrival in Nhlangano town, Hlatshwako asked him to purchase a tray of 60 eggs.
Mamba agreed and told her he would take a minibus taxi to Mbulungwane, but instead, he alighted at kaMdluli in Jericho, a secluded, wooded area. The couple reportedly engaged in conversation until nightfall. With the late hour, Mamba asked his wife for accommodation at her homestead, but she refused. She instead suggested they have sexual intercourse in the nearby forest, to which he agreed.
Escalated
The situation escalated after the act when Hlatshwako’s mobile phone rang. Mamba, who had been told she left her phone at home, became suspicious. Upon checking the caller ID, he discovered it was another man, someone he knew his wife had been involved with previously. When confronted, Hlatshwako allegedly told him to accept that she had two men in her life, enraging Mamba.
In a fit of anger, Mamba allegedly strangled his wife to death, leaving her partially unclothed in the forest with the tray of eggs beside her.
He then left the scene, but due to the darkness, was forced to spend the night in the forest. The following day, he reportedly returned to South Africa.
It was not until March 24 that Mamba returned to Eswatini and surrendered himself to the police. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Hlatshwako’s death is ongoing.
