George is Swaziland Airlink golf champ
MBABANE – George Mzungu scored 38 points to win the Swaziland Airlink Golf tournament on Saturday.
The winner had to be decided after a count back after Mzungu and Peter Cooper, were tied on the same score at the end of the competition.
The Swaziland Airlink sponsored event was played in individual stable ford format and was held at Mbabane Golf Club course.
The players defied the World Cup fever, and came in numbers for the tee off early in the day. There were about thirty golfers during the tee off.
Clement Dlamini came third after scoring 37 points.
Junior golfer Jamie Pennington achieved another milestone in his young golfing career, when he broke into the single figure handicap group. Now playing off a handicap of nine, he took on the challenge and produced one of his best golfing rounds ever, shooting a three over par seventy five, to win the junior section with a superb 42 points.
Vice Captain of the Mbabane Golf Club Mervyn Lubbe extended their best wishes to Pennington as he builds up for the Junior Open Championships to be played in Scotland on July 13. Pennington will depart with fellow junior golfer Goodness Dlamini to represent the country.
