Circumcision is not a sin
Sir,
Thank you in advance for allowing me to respond to a question I read in your newspaper dated Wednesday 22, 2010, page 7 alleging that ‘according to Deuteronomy 23, circumcision is a sin’.
The answer is unequivocally ‘not at all’ because Jesus Christ, the true son of God, who humbly shared in our humanity, except sin, was himself circumcised (Luke 2:21).
Also, people should know that circumcision is a simple removal of the foreskin; it is not a castration (removal of testicles) and the manhood is not cut off.
Someone who is circumcised keeps intact his testicles and his manhood, so he remains capable of reproduction.Dr Kalungero-M

Jesus was tortured and crucified as well. Does that mean torture and crucifixion are not a sin?

Circumcision is unnecessary for Christians. Jesus was circumcised because he was Jewish, and circumcision at that time removed only the tip of the foreskin, not the entire foreskin. Catholics should NOT circumcise their children, based on the teachings of the New Testament and the Catholic Catechism. Under "Respect for bodily integrity, the Catholic Catechism states, "Except when performed for strictly therapeutic medical reasons, directly intended amputations, mutilations and sterilizations performed on innocent persons are against moral law" (N. 2297). Fr. John J. Dietzen wrote, "Elective circumcision clearly violates that standard. It is an amputation and mutilation, and ... no significant medical group in the world defends it as having any therapeutic value. " The Council of Florence (1438-1435) ordered "all who glory in the name of Christian not to practice circumcision either before or after baptism, since whether or not they place their hope in it, it cannot possibly be observed without loss of eternal salvation." Circumcision depends entirely on that individual's prospective, but it’s not a sin at all. EG. It can be done for health reasons, but someone's belief cannot ever go wrong or right. We can exchange words for as long as we can, but this an act that depends entirely on a person's views and beliefs.
