MANZINI – The Municipal of Manzini sold approximately E36 000 worth of impounded livestock during an auction on Wednesday.

The 11 cattle and four goats auctioned at the municipal’s pound were found straying around the city and neighbouring townships.

The municipal’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) Mathokoza Thwala said the animals had been impounded for approximately 42 days as dictated by the Pound Act.

"After the owners failed to come and claim their animals, we had no option but to auction them," he said.

Over 20 bidders took part in the auction that started at about 1:20pm.

Interestingly, there was a fierce contest for a brownish bull between one Mandla Dlamini and Timothy Sukati.

Besides purchasing the bull, Sukati took home two more cows worth E6 600 whilst Dlamini bought a cow for E3 000.

The bid for the bull started from E1 200, going up to E5 250. The contest was won by Sukati.

The cheapest cow was auctioned for E2 350. It was bought by John Malinga.

Four goats were auctioned for E240, E360, E390 and E455.

On another note, there was only one female bidder. She, however, went home empty-handed.
