Not everybody will be celebrating - Magagula

MBABANE – Acting Police Commissioner Isaac Magagula has said ‘happy’ people should be considerate of those not in a celebratory mood.

Magagula explained that in as much it was the right of the people to be happy, they should be considerate of others.

He pleaded with the public to refrain from engaging in activities that could be dangerous.

He said people must welcome the New Year calmly so as to keep out of danger.

Magagula said wild and chaotic celebrations that could disturb the peace of other people must be avoided.

He urged people to avoid excessive drinking during New Year’s Eve as this was usually the cause of disorder and unruly behaviour.

He further appealed to licenced liquor traders to follow the rules and regulations of their licences.

"The non observance of liquor trading licence regulations, has over the years led to unfortunate accidents," he said.

He made an example of the Croydon incident which he described as unfortunate. He said the conduct of the patrons in this instance was wrong and should be condemned by every law abiding citizen.

Magagula further warned against burning tyres in the middle of the road and playing very loud music through out the night which turned out to be an inconvenience to others.

He also cautioned those who mistook the road for racing and stunt tracks for spinning cars because they posed a threat to other road users.

He then assured the nation that the police would be out to ensure that law and order is maintained.
