Brake fluid almost damages man's eyes
MATSAPHA – A 19-year-old man’s eyes have been damaged after brake fluid got into them.
Sifiso Dlamini was working as a mechanic in Barberton, South Africa when the brake fluid splashed into his eyes while he was fixing a car.
Dlamini urgently needs financial assistance to go to South Africa to clean his eyes before he completely loses his eyesight.
"All this happened in 2004 when I was working on one of the cars that usually came in for service. Since then, my eyes have not been fine. I continued working for two years but had to stop in 2006 because I could not see properly," he said.
He said he never went to hospital as he had no money.
"I only cleaned my eyes with water and nothing else.
"I could not afford to go to hospi-tal.
"My boss also told me that he had no money," he said.
Right now, Dlamini says he cannot afford to buy himself basic commodities as he is no longer working.
"If it was not for my eyesight problem, I would have continued to work. I had no choice but to stop working because I could hardly see," he explained.
"I am a very good mechanic. I feel bad that I was forced to stop working because of the fact that my eyes got damaged," he said.
