Man shoots lover dead
MANZINI – A 28-year-old man shot his girlfriend to death yesterday morning before turning the gun on himself.
By the time of compiling this report, Vusi Dlamini of Dvokolwako was fighting for his life at the Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital.
The girlfriend Philile Mbuyisa, the mother of a two-year-old boy died tragically as she was shot once inside her room at her parental home with a 12-bore single barrel shotgun.
The woman was shot in the back and she died on the spot. After committing the crime, Dlamini shot himself in the chest.
“We were already awake when we heard a loud bang outside and we thought it was a paraffin stove that was exploding in one of the rooms.
“My wife, Philile’s mother, went outside after sometime to investigate what was wrong and she came back crying and told the children that Philile was dead,” said Mgcogci, father to the late.
Sabelo Malinga a neighbour said the previous day they heard nothing that suggested that things were not well.
He said they were also shocked as to what could have angered the boyfriend to kill Philile and they were convinced that Dlamini had planned the whole thing looking at the fact that he left a suicide note and the gun he brought with him.
While the bone of contention still remains a mystery, the suicide note Dlamini left behind did not state what could have led to the shooting.
In the suicide letter, Dlamini apologised to his father for stealing the gun and for using it in shooting his girlfriend.
He also apologised to Philile’s father for killing his daughter and stated that he shot her because he loved her so much, adding that he wanted to die with her.
Surprisingly in his wishes in the suicide note, Dlamini asked both families to bury them in one coffin at Dvokolwako.
Some of the family members felt it was just a useless wish as the two were only lovers and were not married.
Dlamini had arrived on Tuesday evening at around 10.30pm to sleep over and it was in the morning that Philile woke up and went to get water from the main house.
According to her sister Zintombi, she came before 6am to get water as they had arranged that she would have to stand-in for her at work.
Minutes after seeing her, Zintombi said she heard gun shots and shockingly, Philile was dead in no time.
Police Public relations Officer Superintendent Vusi Masuku confirmed the shooting incident and said the Manzini police were investigating a murder case.
