What happens to Ezulwini Sun?
MBABANE – Five months after the Ezulwini Sun ceased operating, Swazi-Spa Holdings has received offers from people interested in taking over the hotel and converting it into apartments for rent.
The decision to close down the hotel which last operated on June 30 this year was taken by the Board of Directors of SwaziSpa Holdings Ltd.
One of the reasons was that the hotel was no longer attracting a substantial traffic of visitors.
Ezulwini Sun was one of the three Sun International Hotels based at the country’s lush Ezulwini Valley.
The other hotels are Lugogo Sun and the Royal Swazi Sun.
The two hotels were not affected by the closure of Ezulwini Sun.
Information gathered is that these people, whose identities management did not want to reveal, had been making means to engage management. Lance Rossouw, SwaziSpa Area General Manager, confirmed that there were people who had shown interest in using the facility but there was no decision that had been taken as yet.
"SwaziSpa Holdings has received few verbal proposals with regard to operating the hotel as accommodation in the form of rented flats, as well as a few other proposals," he said.
"The individuals concerned have been asked to confirm their proposals in writing. However, to date, nothing has been received."
Rossouw made it clear that for now, the property at Ezulwini Sun was not for sale and therefore, there were no serious talks as far as selling the hotel was concerned.
"SwaziSpa Holdings has received no serious offers from anyone interested to purchase the Ezulwini Sun," he said.
"This is mainly due to the fact that the property is not for sale. There are no formal talks of selling the property we have ever been engaged in."
He said they had improved security within the closed hotel to make sure that criminals did not make any attempt to break in.
"So far, there has not been any known attempt of any form of theft at the hotel, as it is well secured."
Rossouw said currently their concentration was mainly on promoting the two hotels that are currently operating.
"Our clients are assured of the best treatment when visiting the hotels. The treatment they will receive will be worth their money," he said.
When this reporter visited Ezulwini Sun, security officers were found patrolling around the premises.
The officers said they had been warned to see to it that no stranger enters the premises without authority.
One of the security officers said most of the hotel’s property was still inside, which was why they were still keeping guard.
"At times, some of the cleaners come to clean the hotel and also check if everything is in order," said the officer.
"We have been warned to make sure that nothing comes out without the authority of the management."
The officer said nine of them had been deployed to be on the lookout.
"From time to time, managers visit this place to see if all in order," said the officer.
