New evidence on RSSC worker's death surfaces
MHLUME - New evidence that could uncover the circumstances leading to the death of Lucky Sifundza has emerged.
Sifundza was the Royal Swaziland Sugar Corporation (RSSC) employee who died inside the Mhlume sugar mill on May 23, last year.
Since the accident, police and RSSC management have failed to find conclusive evidence on how Sifundza was killed.
However, there could be a lead on what really killed Sifundza following an incident last Friday, in which a worker at Mhlume sugar mill approached the police and allegedly gave information that could allegedly aid investigations.
The worker is not among the seven employees who were suspended and was also not in the same shift as Sifundza when he died.
Police Deputy Public Relations Officer (PRO) Inspector Khulani Mamba confirmed that a man approached police with information about Sifundza’s death.
He said, "Even though what he gave us can be summed up as hearsay, we are not going to discard it. We will use it in our investigations."
Mamba further said investigations on the matter were still ongoing despite that it was now almost a year since Sifundza’s demise.
Meanwhile, in a statement released on Saturday, RSSC Managing Director, Nick Jackson, said the company was committed to seeing the investigation into the accident right through to completion.
"The company is keeping the police informed of anything that may, even if remotely unlikely, be a link to the accident," read part of the statement.
