ZAKHELE – The Um-butfo Swaziland Defence Force (USDF) recruitment exercise was cancelled at Manzini South Inkhun-dla on Tuesday after a number or aspiring soldiers cheated.

The recruitment exercise started at 2pm and the aspiring soldiers were supposed to run from Tiger City towards the Psychiatric Centre, via Two Sticks and return using the other tarred road leading to Zakhele Sports Ground.
However, many candidates took shortcuts while soldiers watched helplessly.

A source said the army instructors, who waited at Zakhele Sports Ground to select the top 20 from the three categories (males between ages 18 and 27, males from 28 years up and females) saw aspiring soldiers coming from all directions running towards the finish line.

“The instructors failed to determine who had come first and who followed who because the recruits came from all directions.
Some came from the road near the Zakhele Police Camp, others from the netball courts direction, while others came from the gravel road that is behind Zakhele Sports Ground,” the source said.
