NHLANGANO – The 20-year-old woman who hacked her man and a secret lover with a bush knife has appeared in court on two charges.
Nomthandazo Ntombi Mbuyisa was yesterday arraigned before Nhlangano Senior Magistrate Peter Simelane where she entered no plea.

In the first count she is charged with attempted murder, in that she almost killed a 17-year-old girl whom she found in a compromising position in a forest with her live-in-lover, 23-year-old  Xolani Mlotshwa.
The charge sheet reflects that Mbuyisa is alleged to have hacked the teenage girl all over the body with a bush knife.
The incident happened on Monday at Joppa in Maseyisini, outside Nhlangano.

On the same day, and in the same area, the suspect is also alleged to have used the same weapon to hack her live-in-lover; and in respect of that incident, she has been slapped with a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
In court Mbuyisa was alerted to her rights to legal representation and she elected to conduct her own defence.
The prosecution led by Prosecutor Mandla Dlamini, yesterday applied for the matter to be postponed to Wednesday and the court granted the application.

Custody

In the meantime, the suspect will be remanded into custody, pending committal to the High Court.
It was earlier reported that Mbuyisa committed the alleged acts in a paroxy sms of rage after her man had left their homestead under the pretext that he was going to collect firewood at the nearby forest, only for her to catch him engaging in sex with the said teenage girl.
Before the man left their homestead, he is said to have asked  Mbuyisa to hand him over a bush knife so that he could go to the forest to collect firewood.

The woman, however, is said to have given her live-in-lover the bush knife reluctantly as she did not buy into the trick of collecting firewood since it was for the first time she had heard of such from the man.
It was about 2pm, on Monday, when this happened.
The trick probably backfired when the woman hatched a plan to test the veracity of the ‘firewood’ story.

Followed

She is alleged to have followed her man moments after he had left.
Speaking to journalists, the man admitted to having lied to the live-in-lover about the story of collecting firewood in the forest.
“I knew I was going to meet another lover because our relationship had taken a nosedive with my live-in-lover, following an unresolved dispute also bordering on her being unfaithful,” he said.

He said he decided to get another lover in an attempt to avenge his lover’s unfaithfulness.
Mlotshwa also told the publication that following Monday’s incident, he was now unsure whether he would still be able to stay together with his live-in-lover. He described as an inhuman act what befell them and the teenager who is receiving medical attention at Hlatikhulu Government Hospital because of the severity of her injuries.
Mlotshwa was speaking to journalists in his hospital bed at the Nhlangano Health Centre.
