MBABANE – Former Mtsambama Member of Parliament Mlamuli Dlamini has come out strongly to disassociate himself from a Facebook account in his name.

The account which is registered to Mlamuli Sgebengu Dlamini states that the account holder is the former Mtsambama MP and has a photograph of the Parliament building as a profile picture.
“I strongly dispute the accuracy of this account because it does not belong to me, I believe that it is being used by my opposition to decampaign me,” he said in a telephonic interview yesterday.

The displeased former legislator said it was a pity that he could not trace the origins of the account because he would have been able to take legal proceedings against the alleged imposter. He said that if there was a way for him to have the account deactivated he would have  done so already.
“I heard about its existence yesterday from one of my children. He said a friend of his was perusing his own Facebook account when he came across this account and he asked my son why his father had such a strange account,” he explained.

The last update on the account was made this past Sunday and it reads “Sekuphindze kunjalo Malangeni lamahle...Votela Mlamuli Dlamini sitfutfukise Mtsambama constituency...Simunye, singenta lenkhundla itfutfuke. Be blessed usavota! (sic)” Loosely translated  “The time has come once again, vote for Mlamuli Dlamini for the development of the Mtsambama constituency. We are one and we can contribute to our constituency’s development. Be blessed as you vote”.

Other updates urge the constituents to vote for the former legislator in the 2013 General Elections in order to gain freedom. The first post was made on February 27, 2013. Dlamini said he felt that the account was being used by his competition to paint him in a bad light and as a character assassination tool.

“I believe this account was set up so that it could be used as a strategy to decampaign me as time for the elections was around the corner. I have never had a Facebook account and I do not intend to have one in the future,” he vehemently said.
Dlamini also stated that impersonating another person in such a manner was in bad taste and went against the ethos of the Tinkhundla system; he said this conduct eroded the country’s system of governance.

Another former legislator who has an account on the social media network is Minister of Public Works and Transport and last term’s LaMgabhi MP Ntuthuko Dlamini. He had to deactivate his account a few months ago after he was accused of discussing confidential government business on the networking site. His last post was photographs of him donating blankets to the elderly in the Luhleko chiefdom during his term as an MP.
