Unemployment driving prostitution

MATSAPHA – The reality of unemployment faced by the youth has led to young women renting flats on a daily basis plus bodyguards to secure their trade in sex.

This was discovered during an investigation by the Swazi News into what appears now to be the fastest growing, yet one of the oldest trades known to mankind in the form of prostitution.
A group of young women, about eight in number, sat under a tree by the driveway in one of the well known sex dens in Matsapha.
As they sat lazily under the tree their curiosity was aroused by the sight of the car driving towards their direction. The time was around 1.30pm. The compound has numerous rooms to let and a tavern.

Some of the girls called out, “buyani lana. Kuvaliwe esitolo” (Come here, the tavern is closed).
They were merely drawing attention as the tavern was open and packed with men playing pool while others enjoyed drinks.
Some of the men were formally dressed with neckties while others were clad in casual wear. They seemed to be minding their own business, however, looking at the scribes suspiciously as they headed for the counter.

Outside, the women were patiently waiting. Some of them were forward enough to make the first move.
“I can do you good. In fact, I can be selfish enough to take both of you at a go,” said one of the girls as she approached wearing a big smile. Her other colleagues stood at a distance.

“Or, I can suggest a good partner I can bring along if maybe you may want my opinion about the other girls,” she went on to say.
When asked how much she charges, she said: “E70 for each session and that includes protection (condoms) which I can provide in case you do not have some with you.”
“I have already booked a room for the day and night,” she said pointing to a nearby flat. As negotiations went on about three men monitored the conversation.

“I’m sorry. I cannot arrange for any other alternative place but the room is for my own security,” said *Nomsa who looked to be in her early 20s if not late teen years.

“Like I said I already have a room plus I am protected from hostile clients who may not wish to honour payment as per agreement after the game is over,” she said with a sultry look.
*Not her real name
