Sitezi wins at Malindza
SITEKI-Despite being accused of a ritual murder attempt prior to the elections, Musa Sitezi Dlamini of Malindza received overwhelming results in the Primary Elections last weekend.
Dlamini amassed a total of 918 votes while his closest competitor, Sikipa Mkhwanazi, could only manage 445 votes.
The outcome of the elections surprised Dlamini who, prior to the elections, had been accused of a suspected ritual murder attempt by one Bhabata Maseko, a resident of Malindza.
Maseko accused Dlamini and other two aspiring politicians of trying to murder him for ritual purposes while he was returning from a drinking spot.
The allegations hogged headlines in local media and further received an immediate attention from the Malindza Royal Kraal which instituted an investigation into the matter.
However, days later, Maseko shocked many when he confessed to the police to have lied by claiming to have survived a suspected ritual murder.
He further offered a formal apology to Dlamini and his family.
Following the allegations, Dlamini’s popularity around the area and public confidence on him was feared to have shrunk.
However, this was not the case as scores of his supporters turned out to vote for him during the two days of voting under Malindza umphakatsi.
Restored
In an interview, an elated Dlamini said he believes that it was the almighty God who restored the public’s confidence in him despite the ritual murder allegations.
“I think being a Christian and believing in God is what has taken me to where I am today despite all that I have gone through in the past months,” he said.
The former lecturer at the Southern African Nazarene University also attributed his victory to the community projects which he has been involved in since arriving in the area.
He said there were a lot of projects which he had undertaken with the aim of assisting the community and some disadvantaged families in the area.
Compete
Dlamini, who will now compete for a seat in parliament with the winners from Mdumezulu and Sigcaweni chiefdoms, alluded to the fact that it was too early to celebrate considering the challenge posed by his competitors.
He said he was not yet aware of his competitors in the secondary Elections but said he was confident of winning and subsequently becoming an MP of the area.
Dlamini then thanked his supporters for coming in numbers to vote. He further thanked his campaign agents whom he said ensured that he won.
Meanwhile, under the same umphakatsi, former Bucopho, Sikhumbuzo Dlamini, shocked many when he won under the category of Indvuna yenkhundla.
Sikhumbuzo defeated Themba Esau Dlamini who served as Indvuna yenkhundla for the area in the past term.
