SEC extends deadline for registering personal info
MBABANE – The Swaziland Electricity Company (SEC) has extended the deadline for registration of personal information for customers using prepaid meters.
The deadline has been extended to September 16, 2013. Today was scheduled to be the deadline and yesterday, SEC revenue offices were a hive of activity as customers battled to meet the deadline.
The company is on the verge of upgrading its system in order to enhance service delivery and without updated personal data, customers stand to be left in the dark.
There was drama at the SEC revenue office at the Swazi Plaza in Mbabane yesterday as scores of customers pushed and shoved in a long line to update their personal data.
The queue went as far as the entrance of the Sales House Building at the first floor as early as 9am with customers desperate to register.
The commotion was witnessed around 11am when impatient customers started jumping the queue to get in front. This did not go down well with other customers and the security guard was called to the rescue.
While the security guard attempted to bring order he was castigated and accused of taking sides and allowing his ‘friends’ to jump the line.
According to eyewitnesses, sensing that the situation was threatening to get out of hand, the security guard closed the door for about 10 minutes in order to allow the impatient customers to calm down.
When the doors were re-opened, customers were in a straight line and normal business resumed.
Later in the day, the SEC Corporate Communications office released a statement, announcing the extension of the deadline.
“We would like to thank all customers who have provided their details for the prepaid system upgrade. While we have received overwhelming response, we have noted that some customers were not able to provide us with the requested details due to the influx in our service centres. As a result, SEC would like to extend the deadline for registration to 16 September 2013,” said SEC.
The company has encouraged customers to use the two weeks to provide their personal details and not wait for the last minute.
Customers have also been reminded to update their information through the internet at www. sec.co.sz/update or contact the call centre on 8009000.
“Customers may also register at the SEC Trade Fair stand at Mavuso Trade Centre. You are once again requested to co-operate and use this opportunity to provide the required details to enable us to assist you,” said the company.
