MAN ROBBED NEXT TO POLICE HEADQUARTERS
MBABANE –Two men have been arrested for stabbing and robbing a man items worth E 4 700 next to the Royal Swaziland Police Headquarters.
Kwanele Khumalo, 20, and Sixoxo Mamba, 19, both of Mhobodleni appeared before Magistrate Siphosini Dlamini on Friday having been charged with robbery. They are alleged to have, on July 26, 2013 at or near the Royal Swaziland Police Headquarters, both acted jointly in furtherance of a common purpose to wrongfully and unlawfully force Meshack Mathonsi by threatening him with violence to surrender his belongings valued at E 4 730.
In the company of an unidentified third man who is still on the run, they allegedly threatened Mathonsi with a knife and went on to stab him in the left palm before making away with his items after 9pm on the said day.
The items include a grey laptop valued at E2 000, a black Samsung Galaxy cellphone which cost E 1 500, sneakers, a backpack and a tracksuit.
The magistrate remanded them back to custody until today.
The accused persons told the court that they were on their way to hitchhike to Manzini and that they did not have any money for bus fare when they robbed the complainant.
Mathonsi, in a statement he recorded with the police said he had been waiting for one Wandile Dlamini at Total Gardens Filling Station after 9pm when he decided to walk to Mvakwelitje upon realising that Dlamini had taken too long to show up. While along Usuthu Public Road, he said he walked past three men near the police headquarters and they robbed him of the said items.
The stolen items were found at Mhobodleni in Manzini. The suspects told the court that the items had been sold already by the time they were recovered.
