NHLANGANO – After operating as a college for 31 years, government has officially declared Ngwane Teachers Training College a university.
The college is expected to starting operating as a university next year.

This was revealed by the College’s Principal Amos Mahlalela and UNISWA Vice-Chancellor Professor Cisco Magagula during the graduation of 148 teachers on Friday morning.

Magagula was Guest Speaker.

According to Mahlalela, 3 764 teachers have been trained since the formation of the college.
Former government Spokesperson Macanjana Motsa and Mbilaneni Indvuna Thamsanqa Thikazi, are some of the products of the college.
Mahlalela and Professor Magagula revealed that that approval for the college to become a university has been done by the outgoing Cabinet led by Prime Minister Sibusiso Dlamini. Information gathered from Ngwane teachers’ college is that it was formed in 1982 to 1986.

The then European Economic Community played a key role in constructing the college.
From 1982 to 1986 the first training qualification given was a two-year Primary Teachers Certificate and a Teachers Diploma which currently runs for a period of there years.
Currently the college has six departments, Social Studies, Practical Arts, Education, Languages, Science, and Agriculture.
As the name indicates, the college is named after the late King Ngwane.

Correctional Services Public Relations Officer (PRO) Bongani Khumalo accompanied his wife Nonhlanhla who was graduating as a teacher. She scooped a distinction.
A second year teaching male student surprised many when he danced  with imbali while wearing a maiden’s traditional regalia.

Yes it is true, says UNISWA Vice Chancellor Magagula

NHLANGANO – UNISWA Vice Chancellor Cisco Magagula has confirmed that Ngwane Teachers College has been upgraded to university status.

“Iam here to report that beginning from 2014, Cabinet has approved that Ngwane Teacher’s College and  be incorporated into the University of Swaziland.
This means the University of Swaziland has been accrediting the programmes of the college. Therefore, beginning from next year, all the things equal, Ngwane Teachers College, should be admitting students into a Bachelor of Education Degree programme,”said Magagula.

This year’s graduation ceremony is important because it will serve as reference, a period that marks a shift in the governance structure and programmes of the college,   Instead of defining our relationship through the board of affiliated institutions, the college will be part of UNISWA,” said the professor.
