NEW DPM DLAMINI MAKES HISTORY - TV
MBABANE – Paul Dlamini, the newly-appointed Deputy Prime Minister, is the first member of the Dlamini clan to land such a high-profile position.
This was confirmed by acting Ludzidzini Governor Timothy Velabo Mtetwa yesterday.
Mtetwa said: “In the history of the country, there has never been a deputy prime minister with the Dlamini surname (kuyacala impela kutsi abe waka Dlamini).”
He, however, said the King was at liberty to appoint anyone into the position of deputy prime minister.
Dlamini was the Regional Administrator for the Shiselweni region.
He, as DPM, steps into the shoes of Themba Nhlanganiso Masuku – who served in the previous administration.
Other individuals who have held the post of deputy prime minister include Mfundza Sukati, Amos Zonke Khumalo, Ben Mshamndane Sibandze, Simon Sishayisedolo Nxumalo, Albert Heshane Shabangu, Constance Simelane and most recently Masuku.
Only Sibandze, Simelane and Masuku are still alive.
Sukati was surrogate to Prince Makhosini – the kingdom’s first prime mini- ster after attaining independe-nce.
King Sobhuza II later replaced him (Sukati) with Khumalo.
