MBABANE – Swazi pupils have shone in the South African Matric results, as many of them managed to obtain distinctions. Some of Swaziland’s top schools offer the Matric examination as it is seen to be providing the perfect platform for pupils who intend to enrol in tertiary institutions in South Africa.

Top schools like Sisekelo High School, Mbalenhle Christian Academy and Enjabulweni High School are some of the schools whose pupils write Matric examinations.
Sibonelo Dlamini, a pupil from Mbalenhle Christian Academy, managed to top the KwaZulu Natal Region in Pure Mathematics, as she got 99 per cent. The lowest mark she got in her results was 84 per cent.

U-Tech, on the other hand, managed to get a total of 93 subject distinctions in their Matric results.
According to the head teacher, Mavela Shongwe, 110 pupils sat for the examination. He said the pupils did really well as 73 of them qualified to enrol for Bachelor’s Degrees.

He said 25 qualified to enrol for Diplomas and 12 for Higher Certificates.
Shongwe said overall the school managed a 100 per cent pass rate in the exams, with 64.4 per cent of the pupils qualifying for Bachelor’s Degrees, 22.7 per cent for the Diplomas and 10.9 per cent for the Higher Certificates.

“The school got 93 subject distinctions and a 100 per cent pass rate,” he said.
Shongwe said there were a total of 21 distinctions for English as a second language, 36 distinctions for Life Orientation, nine for Business Studies, eight for siSwati and six for Mathematics Literacy.

He said the pupils who excelled were their Head girl, Sinenhlanhla Dlamini, who got six distinctions, and Thabani Masuku who got the same number of distinctions.
Mahle Ndzinisa and Chazekile Nkosi got five distinctions each and Takhona Mkhonta and Bongani Sibandze got four Distinctions each. He said there were also a countless number of Merits.

Shongwe said the school also did well in the Junior Certificate examinations, as they were in the top five in the government listing. He said they got five Merits, 12 First Classes and 11 Second Classes. The school recorded no Third Class Passes and no failures.

Shongwe said they had opened an extra class for Matric, because of the high demand for the qualification. He said in order to excel in the Matric results, they ensured that their pupils underwent the three year training, which is from Grade 10 to Grade 12.
The former pupils of the school said they were not allowed to use cellphones during their schooldays, and this benefitted them a lot. They said they lived by the motto ‘Books before boys because boys bring baggage’.

Shongwe said the school also acted as a centre for Mbalenhle, and SAIM Christian Academy.
According to Mbalenhle’s Head teacher, Celiwe Khumalo, pupils from her school also excelled as out of 99 pupils, 70 qualified to enrol for the Bachelor’s Degree.
She said 27 qualified for Diplomas and only two qualified for the Higher Certificate. She said 12 pupils got only Level Seven and Level Eight in their results. She said Level Seven meant the pupils got 80 per cent and upwards, while Level Six meant those who got 70 per cent and above.

She said the pupils were Sibonelo Dlamini, Sibonisile Dlamini, Lomave Dlamini, Ticutemakhabako Mhlanga, Portia Maseko, Thandeka Vilane, Mbuso Mthembu, Tandzile Tsabedze, Mbali Sihlongonyane, Yethu Gamedze, Gugu Tembe and Ntsiki Tsabedze.

Khumalo explained that all these pupils got Distinctions in their subjects. She said the school dealt with quality education. She said they worked extra hard with the teachers, and the pupils had only one week holidays. She also said they also gave each pupil enough attention, and extra time was made for those who needed it.

Sisekelo High, Mananga College excel

MBABANE – Sisekelo High School and Mananga College pupils also excelled in their Matric results as previously reported.
Sisekelo obtained 46 subject Distinctions whilst Mananga got 24 subject Distinctions. The schools got their results earlier, as they were writing under a different governing body.

Mananga obtained 19 Bachelor’s Degree entrance requirements and three Diploma passes.
They obtained 24 subject Distinctions in Engineering Graphics, French, Life Orientation, Mathematics Literacy, Mathematics, Geography, Life Sciences, History and SiSwati.
He said two pupils, Nolwazi Sibandze and Sifiso Kunene obtained Distinctions. Maxwell Mtshali, Siphesihle Myeni and Bafana Ndwandwe got more than one Distinction.

Pleasant surprise for top KZN pupil

MBABANE – Sibonelo Dlamini who topped the whole of KwaZulu Natal in her results said she was surprised as she had not worked hard enough on her exams.
Dlamini, who is a former pupil of Mbalenhle Christian Academy, got position one in Physical Mathematics in the KZN Province. She also got distinctions in all her other subjects, and the lowest mark was 84 per cent.

Dlamini, who resides in Mhlume, said her exam was very tricky and challenging, and she had not expected the marks she got.
“I am happy with my results, as I had not worked for it. I would advise other pupils to put God first in everything they do. I believe He is the reason for my achievements, as I did not work that hard,” she said.

She said she was aspiring to be an audiologist, as she found it interesting and studying towards it would not take too much of her time as she also wanted to have a life besides school. She said she also liked helping other people.

Dlamini said other people who aspired to excel like her should ensure that they listened in class, as studying started in class. She said she did not expect anything from her parents as they had sacrificed a lot in ensuring that she got quality education. “My parents invested everything in me. They would even go hungry at times just to make sure I got education. Expecting anything from them now would be unfair to them.”
